Causes of lower self-esteem
Having low self-esteem is a result of past experiences or influences of other people. There are a lot of factors that causes low self-esteem to a person. Here are some of these causes:
- having been abused, either as a child or in relationships.
- too much expectations from you. People around you may have influenced you for having low self-esteem. Even the media can influence you with this. Too much is expected from someone your age or someone like you. This makes you feel like you are not worthy of what you have.
- Being put-down by other people always.
- Experience of violence, harassment, or discrimination.
- Being with people who are always at the top. This sometimes makes a person feel so low about himself for looking up to the people who are on top of them.
These are just few of the factors that affects the people’s self-esteem. These are not the person’s fault. It develops within him because of those factors. Knowing this factors can help us realize that we are just being affected by these experiences which resulted to lower self-esteem.
