Making Good Use of Your Procrastination Hours

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Procrastination is such a difficult thing to avoid especially if we don’t like the task that we have to complete.  So we procrastinate and cram up when the deadline for the task is coming.  This is also true for simple tasks such as household chores.  We sweep the floor the following day instead of finishing it today.  What happens is, the floor gets dirtier and more uninviting to do the task.  The task also gets heavier.

Things have been written or advised here on how to avoid procrastination or how to overcome it.  I’ll add up another one which is to make your procrastinating hours useful for you.  When you procrastinate for a task, do something worthwhile.  We have that attitude of doing nothing when we procrastinate for a difficult task.  Instead of staying idle for hours, why not do lighter tasks to lighten your schedule.  By end of the day, you only have one task left for you to do.

Doing so will also keep you active physically or mentally.  That will help you get motivated and energized to do the task you’ve been avoiding to do.  Because sometimes laziness just gets in the way of starting your task and you just need a nudge to start doing it.  So doing a lighter task might get you energized or motivated to do a heavier one.

Good Habit: Waking Up Early

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

There are a lot of people who have a problem in waking up early.  Well, it feels good to sleep.  There are also people who are blessed enough to wake up early in the morning, some don’t even need an alarm clock.

The hardest part could be rising from your bed.  The clock has alarmed but yet, its hard to rise from bed.  Then there is the snooze as well.  Even if you have snoozed the alarm clock several times, you’re still in bed staying idly.  Maybe you need to place the clock far from your bed so that you won’t be able to put it off or snooze it easily.  But what do we benefit if we wake up so early?  A lot!

Waking up early can give you more time to do things you need to do and finish some tasks.  The early you wake up, the sooner you get things done for the day which means you will have more extra time for yourself.  Rising up few minutes after you’ve awaken will help you avoid procrastination.  You get more motivated if you wake up early.  The longer you stay in your bed awake will lose you some energy that may lead to procrastination.

All it takes is to make it a habit of yours to rise up early.  Once it has become a habit, it will be easier for you to do it.  Practice to do it everyday and you will eventually be an early riser.

How to Enjoy Your Job

Friday, April 11th, 2008

Each person has his own taste or preference over things. Some persons may enjoy charitable works while others may not. But what if you are faced with something that you are not interested in and something that you think you’ll never enjoy? You may feel like a prisoner wanting to get freed of such task. Here are some pointers to help you:

  • Think of the positive things about your task. For sure, you think of it in the negative aspect. Every fault that you can find about it are all in your mind already. Think of the benefits of the task and you will somehow realize that it isn’t bad after all.
  • Be with people who enjoy the task. Surround yourself with people who are enthusiastic with the job. Do not spoil their enthusiasm by complaining and saying negative things about them or the job. Instead, get influenced by them.
  • Enjoy being with others in the job. You may not necessarily do the job with them or talk about the job all the time. But you may enjoy their company. As you enjoy being with them, you may eventually enjoy doing the job as well.

Enjoying your job or even just the simplest task you have at home will help you get motivated and succeed with it. Instead of procrastinating over it, find ways on how to enjoy your job or task so that you will finish it on time.

Think Rich

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

I’ve been to Thrilling Heroics site and I found out the way you think about things has an impact on how you will get to succeed in life.  It listed the seventeen ways successful and wealthy people relate to money that unwealthy people don’t from T. Harv Eker’s book Secrets of the Millionaire Mind: Mastering the Inner Game of Wealth.  Here’s the list:

  1. Rich people believe: “I create my life.” Poor people believe: “Life happens to me.”
  2. Rich people play the money game to win. Poor people play the money game to not lose.
  3. Rich people are committed to being rich. Poor people want to be rich.
  4. Rich people think big. Poor people think small.
  5. Rich people focus on opportunities. Poor people focus on obstacles.
  6. Rich people admire other rich and successful people. Poor people resent rich and successful people.
  7. Rich people associate with positive, successful people. Poor people associate with negative or unsuccessful people.
  8. Rich people are willing to promote themselves and their value. Poor people think negatively about selling and promotion.
  9. Rich people are bigger than their problems. Poor people are smaller than their problems.
  10. Rich people are excellent receivers. Poor people are poor receivers.

If you come to think of it, all of it are true.  Unwealthy people think that because they are not rich, they don’t have the right to think big.  They separate themselves from rich people.  They may not afford some of the rich people’s activities, but surely they can think the way rich people think.  They don’t have to act rich, they just have to think rich.
Rich people have worked their way to success.  Some may have been born rich, but they were able to maintain their wealth because they work for it also.  The list above is a guide for us on how we should set our mind to success.
