Value of Time

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

“To realize the value of one year, ask a student who failed a grade.  To realize the value of one month, ask a mother who gave birth to a premature baby.  To realize the value of one week, ask the editor of a weekly newspaper.  To realize the value of one hour, ask the lovers who are waiting to meet.  To realize the value of one minute, ask a person who just missed the train.  To realize the value of one second, ask a person who just avoided an accident.”

Time is gold, they say.  But time is precious than gold, isn’t it?  Gold may have great value but when you lost it, there is still a possibility that you can acquire it again.  But not with time.  Time moves forward and never in backwards, you can never go back to a specific date.

It helps big time to realize the importance of time.  It will cause us not to let go of opportunities, value every single minute we have and to do the things we want to do while we have the time.  A small delay in doing our tasks or the things for our goals in life is a time wasted.  We may be hesitant to do some things sometimes and it causes us delay.  What we need to do in this situation is to take the first step.  Just think of doing the first step and we’ll be all ok.  We sometimes think we could have succeeded already only if we have done the process the moment we have thought or we had the opportunity.  Do not think of failure, think of trying.  You will never succeed if you never try.  But the moment you fail to try, you already failed in your goal.

Loss of Motivation

Friday, October 26th, 2007

On the road to achievement, we pass by a lot of difficulty.  The thought of reaching our goal gives us the energy to go and start the journey.  But when we pass by these difficult areas, it discourages us to continue.  We would feel the pressure, tension, and the likes along the way that causes us to lie low with our goals and sometimes lead to giving up.  This may also result to loss of motivation where the energy we felt at first seems to have evaporated.  This loss of motivation may cause us to lose our confidence as well.  So imagine having no motivation and confidence?  Are we ever going to succeed at all?

Losing motivation over a project is not the end of it all.  What do we need to do to regain it?  We need to analyze the situation and understand our emotions.  Think what caused you to lose your motivation.  Is it depression?  The threat of failure makes us depressed over the project which causes us to discontinue.  Realizing this will help you to think deep and set your mind once again in your goal and focus on it.

Sometimes staying stagnant on your project causes you to lose interest on it.  It is because, we get too excited at the beginning that we are not able to fully prepare ourselves for the project.  We don’t only need to prepare ourselves but also the background and the things we need to do for the project.

Losing motivation over a project really happens.  We must not lose hope if this happens,  we must regain it to achieve our goals.  Motivation keeps us moving and we must not lose it as much as possible.

Good Habits That Keep You Motivated All Day Long

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

If you want to stay motivated for the rest of the day then you should keep in mind several things. Below is a list of things and pointers that you might want to take note of. These pointers and tips will allow you to keep going for the whole work day.

1. Exercise in the morning. If you want to jump start your body right away then you should get on that treadmill in the early morning. Exercising in the morning allows you to wake up not only your body but your mind as well. When you get the sweat out in the early morning, you turn your body into work mode. You get your body out of sleep mode when you exercise in the morning.

2. Eat a healthy breakfast. Breakfast is the king of all meals. You get most of your energy for the day during this first and most immaculate meal. You have to treat breakfast as your perfect meal. Everything that you eat during breakfast is something healthy and something energetic. You should load up on carbohydrates. Load up on energy for the rest of your day. Eat fruits and dairy products in the morning. Have some healthy form of protein too.

3. Inspire yourself. What do you wake up for? What do you live your life for? Do you live your life for your children? Do you live your life so that you can get to drive that Porsche one day? What moves you? What drives you to excel in life? If you have an inspiration then you will not have any trouble getting up in the morning and making yourself work. If you do not have an inspiration in life right now then you better find one!

4. Do tasks one by one. If you want to accomplish something at work then you have to work on things one by one. You can not put up a building overnight. You can not cure cancer overnight. The space station was not made in one day. If you want to accomplish great things then you have to make it a point to do things one by one. List these tasks on a piece of paper and try to accomplish them one by one during your day.

5. Compete! You work hard in this society of capitalism. If you want to make it up there and enjoy riches then you have to compete with other people. Find someone to compete with. Look for someone that will challenge you. Look for people that have your same skills. Look for people that will force you to become better. If you can not find someone to compete with then simply compete with yourself. Challenge yourself. How many goals did you accomplish yesterday? Can you finish more today?

6. Don’t allow mistakes and failures to keep you down. Get over it right away. When you encounter mistakes along your day, do not allow them to destroy you. It is normal to err when you are human so mistakes are simply another thing that you have to experience in daily life. You should get used to making mistakes and getting over them because this is the only way that you can move on with your day and get things done.

If you are in a very busy workplace then you can not afford to be lazy and dull. You have to find a way to keep yourself busy and keep yourself energized. If you want to be someone and if you want to go somewhere in life then you must keep these pointers in mind. They will certainly get you through your day and make you stay motivated.

How To Stay Motivated In The Face Of Setbacks

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

It is hard to stay motivated with your work when you are faced with several setbacks. How can you get back up from a hard fall? If you are aspiring to become a doctor, how do you continue studying after failing the medical bar twice? If you want to become a pilot, how can you make it happen if your vision is not 20/20? If you want to become a mathematician, should you give up when you find out that your intellectual quotient is way below average?

You should not give up when you are faced with setbacks. You should stay motivated and keep going for your goals. Here are some pointers that you might want to keep in mind when you are faced with setbacks at your work.

1. Everyone fails but only the great ones get back on track and learn from their mistakes. You are just a human being. Is it your fault that you are prone to err once in a while? You are going to make mistakes along the way. You are going to fall down. This is not your fault.

It is going to become your fault if you do not get up. It is going to become your fault when you do not care about getting back up and pursuing the goals that you have set out for yourself. Failing is completely normal. You should actually get used to it. What you should learn is how to get back up from these failures. The great people are the ones who get back up from failures.

2. Find a role model. Who are the great people that you admire? Is it Babe Ruth from baseball? This great athlete’s batting average is around one third. This means that for every great shot he made, he missed two more! If you think that failing is normal then you are right. If you think that failing is inevitable then you are right again.

Failure is simply something that you have to go through to make those home runs. You might want to use Michael Jordan as your role model. This basketball superstar is probably the greatest player who has ever played the game. Would you believe that Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team? Setbacks do not bother these winners. Who is your role model? Find one and be inspired.

3. Get out there and experience humanity. The more people you bump into life increases your chances of understanding the human race as it is. If you do not go out much then you must consider going out more often. Talk to people. Ask them about their experiences in life. Learn from their mistakes. Ask them what they did in certain situations. You are going to learn a lot of things from other people. Embrace humanity and enjoy being a human being yourself. Failure is something everyone has experienced.

4. Your emotions are merely emotions. Everyone has feelings. You can cry but once you are done crying, you have to step up from your failure and keep on going. There are too many losers crying in their corner of the world today. You should not be one of them. If you want to get through failure then you should leave it behind when all the dust has settled. You have to move on and accomplish things. Get over it and get up.

Setbacks should not prevent you from accomplishing your goals. Setbacks are merely there to make you stronger. You should get up from these falls and fight back once again. There is no reason for you to sulk and give up on everything. Stay motivated and do not allow these setbacks to get to you.

How To Stay Motivated When You Feel Like Giving Up

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

If you stay motivated with your work then you will never think of giving up. Giving up or quitting is the plan of the loser. The people who keep quitting with their work are the losers in this world. The people who give up are at the bottom of the food chain. Do you want to be down there? Do you want to be a loser? Are you the type of person that wants to give up when things get tough? You should not be. Here are some tips that you can use so that you do not easily give up on your work.

1. The grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence. A lot of people think that other places aside from one’s own are better. An accountant may think that the job of a financial analyst is better. A dentist may think that the work of a computer programmer is more fulfilling. A doctor may think that the life of a soldier is more fulfilling. But who knows? Is someone else’s work better than yours?

If you always think that way then you will always think of giving up. The truth is that other people’s work is not always better than yours. If you have work to do then you might as well do it instead of constantly changing careers.

2. Surrender is not an option. Sometimes you will have to fight until your last breath. In war, kamikaze soldiers of Japan did not go home during battle. They fought the enemy up to their last breath. These soldiers are heroes. These soldiers have what it takes to do great things in this world.

If you have the same attitude as a kamikaze solider then you are likely to do great things too. You are not going to give up with your work. You are going to do what it takes in order to finish it. You will finish it with your last breath. This is the attitude that you need.

3. Loser is not your middle name. If you keep giving up on things then you are on track to becoming a loser. If you want to get things done then you should have competitiveness within you. How do you find this within you? How do you fire up this competitive vibe within you? You might want to join some sports.

You might want to find someone in the office to compete with. If you can do this then you will slowly turn yourself into a competition machine. If you are competing with someone then you definitely do not want to experience the humiliation of defeat.

4. Find an inspiration. If you have an inspiration in your life then you will not easily give up. If you are a parent then you might want to use your children as inspiration for your work. You will not easily give up on work because you know that someone is counting on you. You might want to use your significant other as an inspiration. If you do not work hard then this person will leave you for someone else. You certainly do not want this to happen to you, right?

Giving up is something that losers do and you are definitely not one of them. The tips mentioned here are certainly going to fire up the motivation factor inside you. The urge to give up will simply vanish. You are going to forget about giving up once and for all. Giving up is not going to be one of your options at work when you stay motivated and focus.

How To Beat Procrastination at Work

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

In order to beat procrastination at work, one must stay motivated at all times. Procrastination is the habit of postponing tasks. Are you the type of person that procrastinates regularly? Maybe you are having a hard time finding interest with your work. Maybe you are having difficulty managing your day to day tasks. If you are getting the procrastination bug then you might want to consider the following pointers in order to manage your tasks and fight procrastination.

1. Write down your tasks or put them in an organizer. This is one of the most important parts of beating procrastination. When you write down your goals, you make a physical commitment of finishing these things. Studies have shown that if you write down your goals and aspirations, you are more likely to accomplish them.

When you write down your goals, you have to make sure that there is a deadline for them. If you write down your goals without planning to accomplish them at a specific date then you are simply prepping yourself up for another procrastination incident.

2. Do your tasks one by one. Do not be overwhelmed by the number of tasks you have to accomplish. If you do your tasks one by one then you will eventually finish all of them. If it helps, you can actually recall past incidents where you were actually able to accomplish tons of work by doing tasks one by one.

At the end of the day, you are not a super human being. You have to do things one by one just like everyone else. In order to accomplish great things, you have to work like everyone else does. Work on your tasks one by one and you will end up seeing results in the end.

3. Do not allow distractions to get into your way. There are a lot of ways to be distracted in your work place. There is your nagging office mate. This person will bug you in your cubicle or simply ask you to have coffee multiple times in a day. If this person is getting in your way then you should politely tell this person that you have to get some work done.

Other things that may distract you are your mobile phone, video games, and the television set. If these electronic devices are bringing you down then you should start avoiding them. If you are having a hard time getting detached to these devices then allot only a small amount of time for watching television, playing videogames, or chatting on the phone.

4. Stay healthy. One of the things that you should take care of when you are at work is your body. If you do not take care of your body then you will end up being unable to work. When you are unable to work then you will also be unable accomplish the tasks you have set out to do.

If you want to stay motivated at work then you have to stay healthy. Make sure that you have a balanced diet and make sure that you exercise. You should do some running two to three times a week. Cut down on your consumption of high sugar food and high cholesterol food. If you want to get things done on earth then you have to make sure that your body is in tip top shape.

With these tips in mind, you are going to slowly stop postponing your work. If procrastination is destroying your work and eventually destroying your life then you have to step up and keep these tips in mind. If you are planning to accomplish great things in your life then you have to do things one at a time. You have to get things done today and not tomorrow. Stay motivated and dump that procrastination habit once and for all.

Beating Procrastination With Effective Time Management

Friday, October 19th, 2007

Time management is one of the effective ways in beating procrastination.  But it hardly works for us.  I think we have to plan out not just how to manage our time but how to make our plan work for us.  Here are some tips on how to make our time management plan effective:

  • Motivation.  Motivate yourself hard in following what you have planned to do for a particular period of time or how you have planned to do your tasks.
  • Patience.  It would be hard to adjust with your time management plan at firs if you are not used to it so you need a lot of patience.  Just think that this is for your success.
  • Keep tracked.  Observe your performance and see how you have improved.  This will help you see if your plan works for you and how you can further improve.
  • Revise your plan.  If you see that your plan is not really working for you, you can revise it until you get the perfect time plan for your tasks.

Procrastination will continue as a burden in achieving your goals until you do something about it.  Procrastination will only be beaten by ourselves.  No one can get procrastination out of us.  It is our choice to beat procrastination, others may influence us but the choice still lies in our hands.

Perseverance versus Procrastination

Always defeated by procrastination?

There are these times when we really want to do something, like a project, to finish it early and won’t have any problems later on.  But procrastination is just so tempting during these times.  We may have wanted to fight it at times, but its just so tempting.  Its like the perfect time to do something else.  So how can you fight this off?

Perseverance.  Have perseverance over your goal.  Concentrate hard on reaching that goal and do not think of any excuses why you should do other things.  Sometimes we would have this excuse that we are not in the right mood to finish something or that its too noisy to study our lessons.  Every time we think of this, think of your goal.  Think of it like you have already succeeded to give you the motivation and would make you to persevere more.

Perseverance gives you more courage.  Fight procrastination with perseverance.  Think of it as an enemy that you want to defeat.  An enemy you won’t allow to overpower you.

Know Your Real Goal in Life

Friday, October 5th, 2007

Weren’t we asked when we were a child what we wanted to be when we grow up?  Then we think of a profession, a nurse, doctor, architect, engineer, and so on.  We chose what we thought was good for us with the perception of how good to be on that profession.  We also base it on the skills that we have realized we possess.

When I was a child, I was fond of drawing and I said being an architect would fit me right.  But later in my life, I discovered that architects doesn’t just draw freehand.  A painter was what’s on my mind then.  My ambition then was changed to being an accountant because I liked math.  But when I entered college, I was not able to enter the course because of the quota and so I enrolled in business administration so I can shift later on to accountancy.  Then when I was already in school, I realized that I’d never fit in there and that my course was where I should really be.

In finding what’s best for us, or what we really want in life, it is better that we do some background checking first.  Ask someone who are on such profession or has achieved what you want to achieve.  Do some analysis if that is what you really wanted, not just because its the best or that’s the only thing you can achieve.  Remember that your desire over something is a good motivator in achieving or acquiring it.
