Getting Miserable is Optional

Friday, June 29th, 2007

I just read from a book an experience of an old lady who lost a child.  Since her child’s death, she has been feeling weak and miserable.  She also paid someone to put flowers in her child’s grave everyday.  Until the doctor told her that she has got only a few weeks to live.  So she decided to visit the grave herself.  But she first fetched the caretaker of the grave and they went there together with her driver.  As they were on the grave, sadness filled the old woman’s face.  The caretaker wanted to tell the old woman something but hesitated.  But later on, he decided to speak.  He told the old woman that she needed not to pay him in providing flowers for her son’s grave.  He has been a member of organizations where they visit sick people, or some people who needs care.  Those people whom they visit would really love to receive flowers.  So he suggested to the old woman that she give the flowers to those people who needs it.  The old woman didn’t say anything, instead, she left.

Weeks later, the old woman came back to the caretaker, feeling totally ok.  She has realized what the caretaker has told her and followed his advice.  It made her feel good and stronger that she has helped people to feel better with the flowers she gave them.

With that story, being miserable indeed is optional.  When her child died, she opted to get herself weaker and grieve over her lost.  It is understandable to mourn over the lost ones after they died.  But life should not stop there for the ones they left.  They should move on with their lives.  There are other people who truly needs them.  People who can be saved by their touching love and care.

We are all given an option, let us choose the right and the good one for us.  We will not be given an option if it’s not for the better.

Job Procrastination

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

Do you always feel like procrastinating over your job that you seem to be unproductive already? Is it affecting your performance as an employee? It’s about time you do some action about it. It doesn’t mean that if this is what’s happening to you, you will quit already. You just need to be motivated once again.

First off, know the reason of your procrastination. There could be a lot of reasons for your procrastination. It may not be directly connected to your job. It could be from family, friends, or your environment. You might be feeling stressful every time because of your problems at home or with your friends. Try to see also if the reason is in your workplace. An officemate that irritates you, an annoying boss, or the working environment itself. But you can make yourself free from all this if you just motivate yourself. Maybe you can influence them to be more positive towards you. Knowing the reason of your procrastination will help you analyze your situation and find out what to do with it.

Once you knew the reason, think of what could motivate you. If an office mate irritates you, you can try to avoid him/her without being rude. Just don’t mind him/her and do your own job. Concentrate on your job and don’t mind them. Remember also that it could not be directly from your job. Maybe you need some relaxation or some treat for yourself to make you feel better. It is important that we always take care of ourselves. We may be working hard but always take care of ourselves.

Worries Disturb Our Concentration

Monday, June 4th, 2007

Worry destroys our thinking. It also disrupts our work, destroys our poise, and disfigures our face. There are things that we sometimes worry too much when in fact it doesn’t help a situation get better. Though worrying over someone shows your concern for him or her, you could do any better than that. Stop worrying and concentrate on what you can do.

Instead of worrying, do some actions if you can. Think of what you can do to help the situation. If you are worrying that your child hasn’t arrived yet and it’s getting late, do something. That’s if, it is unusual of him to come home late. Call him or his friends or someone whom you can contact. When we get worried we usually don’t know what to do and we just panic and end up doing nothing. Every time you get worried over something, do not panic and think of what you can do.

There are also situations where things are beyond our control and we feel helpless about it. Like a loved one who is undergoing a critical operation, understandably it doesn’t lie in our hands. But why worry when you can pray? Since we can do nothing about it, the best way we can do is to pray.
