How Self-Made Millionaires Overcome Procrastination

Wednesday, September 29th, 2004

Do you want to know how the super successful overcome procrastination?

One fascinating hallmark of all highly motivated
millionaires is their strongly held conviction that they
will succeed. Whatever it takes and despite any challenges
that crop up.

People who are inspired by their dreams believe with
certainty they will achieve their goals even if they do not
know how all the details will work out. This sense of
certainty is due in part to their empowering belief system
and also to the way they represent their goals to
themselves inside their minds.

Have you ever got excited about your goals and then slowly
over time lost your enthusiasm? Most people do.

The difference is that the winners in life are able to
relight that passion and desire to keep on going until they
get what they want.

What are these rich and successful people doing differently
to everyone else? They know how to build an internal state
of certainty that they will succeed despite any short-term
challenges.

You can have this same sense of certainty by visualizing
your top five goals as already achieved at least once a day.
Picture your goals as already achieved and enjoy the
feelings of satisfaction.

Hear people complimenting you on your success and really
soak up the feelings of success. Make the pictures, sounds
and feelings as lifelike as possible. Keep going until you
feel with certainty that you will achieve this goal –– as
sure as the sun will rise in the morning!

If the success of the goal seems uncertain play with the
picture in your mind until it does feel certain. Compare
how you picture, hear and see your goal with your
expectation that the sun will rise tomorrow. Making the
picture bigger, closer, brighter and more colorful usually
helps to make it seem more realistic.

When you do this each day you are telling your unconscious
mind to keep searching for ways to achieve your goal and
you will consistently be motivated. You will also find that
your intuition guides you and presents you with ideas that
will help you to move ahead.

It used to bother me picturing my goals as already achieved
to the point of certainty…

I feared that it would make me lazy since my brain would
believe the goal would just turn up. And I used to think if
I thought of the goal as certain I would be fooling myself
into believing I would achieve it despite immediate
evidence to the contrary.

However the opposite is true.

That sense of certainty propels you forward to create what
you are imagining. Plus when you are off target it stands
out a mile because your results are so inconsistent with
your expectations. You are then compelled to get back on
track.

Like an artist expressing himself with paints you can
become an artist creating your goals in the world around
you from the inspiration inside your mind.

You will never have a 100% guarantee that you will succeed
however the more certain you feel about your future the
more energy you will invest in achieving your goals. And
the corresponding actions you take will naturally improve
your chances of success.

A number of years ago I saw Donald Trump, the New York
property developer, getting interviewed on TV. I paid close
attention to the way he communicated as well as to what he
said. He positively exuded certainty when he spoke about his
next big development. Every fiber of his being proclaimed
that the new venture would be a huge success.

Trump exudes certainty and this success aura attracts
investors and encourages other people to believe in his
vision. You can be sure that when he pictures his goals he
does so with certainty. Start small if you like and as your
confidence grows build up to bigger goals.

Remember to make this a daily habit and you will be able to
keep on going even at times when you face setbacks.

Personal Motivation - How to Give Yourself a Motivational Warm Up

How to Give Yourself a Motivational Warm Up When You Wake Up!
by Peter Murphy

Personal Motivation Tips…

What is the worst thing you can do when you start your day?

Wake up feeling exhausted and expect yourself to perform at
100% from the moment you get up in the morning; and then
compare how you are doing during the day against this
unrealistic benchmark. This is a personal motivation mistake!

There is a better way!

As you wake up in the morning take charge of your thoughts
in that early morning awareness before you fully awake.

Do this before you get up out of bed by repeating some
affirmations. Affirmations work very well WHEN you say them
with strong feelings in a state of deep relaxation.

If you have heard about affirmations before and never got
the maximum benefit from them it is because you did not
know how to take a very simple approach and supercharge it.

Supercharging affirmations depends on four factors:

- Phrasing affirmations in the right way
- Choosing ones that are right for you
- Saying them while in a state of deep relaxation
- Speaking them with strong feeling

When you use affirmations correctly their impact will last
for at least a few hours - long enough to get you started
on the day ahead.

Pay close attention now because I am going to reveal
details of some of my personal and very private habits…

I use the following affirmations to help me get up in a
positive state of mind:

- Positive thoughts bring me the benefits I desire

- Negative thoughts have no influence over me

- Everyday and in everyway I am getting better and better

To start the day with confidence…

- I am confident and charming with the people I meet

- I radiate confidence and relaxation

- I start great conversations easily and effortlessly

- I approve of myself and feel great about myself

- I have sky-high self-esteem

You can do the same…

Remember to say these affirmations with feeling and do so
quietly inside your head while in that relaxed awakening
state.

Unless I use this ritual each morning I tend to feel
negative about the day ahead. The difference from feeling
negative to feeling positive is huge for the sake of those
few minutes in the morning.

You can also go one step further and imagine the day ahead
working out well. See yourself doing your best and easily
dealing with challenges. Imagine yourself feeling confident
and behaving in that way no matter who you deal with.

Imagine you will have a great day in this way and you are
directing your unconscious to make it happen in the
language it understands best - feelings and images.

Forget about will power.

Will power is a waste of time because its like talking to
the most powerful part of your mind in a language it does
not understand.

The key to success is to discover breakthrough ways of
using your mind and to use these strategies daily.

Are You A Big Procrastinator?

Friday, September 24th, 2004

Is procrastination ruining your life? Are you a big procrastinator?

Weisman Success Resources, a Poughkeepsie, NY based success coaching company, has announced a national contest to find “America’s Biggest Procrastinator” to bring attention to this debilitating habit that has become an epidemic in this country.

The contest, which will run from January 15 through March 15 2004 is open to anyone interested in completing the entry form at www.AmericasBiggestProcrastinator.com .

Procrastination is a killer of hopes and dreams, self-confidence, self-esteem and self-worth and costs companies millions of dollars in lost productivity every year. In addition, since most medical experts agree that 80% of all health issues are stress related, the stress created by continual procrastination is also causing considerable damage to the health of those afflicted with this debilitating habit.

“Just like other negative habits, procrastination is a learned behavior that develops over time and gets worse if not addressed early,” said Skip Weisman, principal of Weisman Success Resources, Inc. and the creator of the End Procrastination NOW! System. “I continue to be amazed at the lengths people will go to avoid getting things done by creating all sort of excuses and reasons instead of taking responsibility for their behavior.”

Just goes to show procrastination is a national pastime - isn´t it time you stopped being a big procrastinator?

It really is your choice as to how you run your brain and how motivated you become…

You’ll be very glad you discovered how to be motivated!

How To Be Motivated To Create The Life Of Your Dreams

Thursday, September 23rd, 2004

When it comes to motivating yourself to be a better person,
to do better at work or to create a happier family life you
need to understand the importance of taking control of your
self talk.

Do you ever pay attention to the thoughts inside your mind?
And more importantly do you ever notice the way in which
you talk to yourself?

Here are three tips you can use right away to motivate
yourself:

1 Talk To Yourself The Way You Talk To Someone You Love
Be honest! Is it true you sometimes insult yourself, curse
yourself and say horrible things about your abilities?

If you spoke like this regularly to the people you care
about they would leave and never talk to you again. There
is no excuse for treating yourself so badly.

Talk to yourself the way you would talk to someone you
deeply love. Be respectful, patient and understanding. Be
slow to anger, quick to praise and grateful for the
opportunity to listen.

Be on your best behavior when you talk to yourself and you
will find that you treat other people better as well. This
in turn will cause people to respond more positively to
whatever you say. These very people will be more inclined
to help you get what you want.

2 Pump Up The Volume
Very often we go through our day with an internal dialogue
buzzing away in the background. We mutter to ourselves
about what we need to do without feeling particularly
inspired to do anything other than what we have to do.

This is not an effective strategy for self-motivation!

What you need to do instead is to turn up the volume,
inject some passion into your words and talk to yourself
with enthusiasm. You would not have much luck motivating
someone else to take action without putting some energy
into your words. You need to do the same to motivate
yourself.

The next time you want to motivate yourself to do something
talk to yourself the same way you would if someone was
standing before you waiting to be inspired.

Speak loudly with passion and excitement either aloud or to
yourself inside your head. The more energy you put into it
the easier it will be to light the fire inside you that
sparks you into action.

3 Know How To Feel Good When You Are Having A Tough Day
No matter how focused, positive and hard working you are
there will still be days when nothing seems to go your way.
It is on days like this that you must take charge of your
brain and take control of your self talk.

You need a back catalogue of memories you can replay to
make yourself feel good. Music does it for me. I have so
many songs I love to hear that I just pick one out and
listen to it in my mind.

In a moment I can listen to sounds that make me feel
fantastic simply by choosing to. For best results imagine
you have a volume control with bass and treble. Make the
music sound rich, loud and resonant.

A friend of mine has such a great memory that he will
listen to an entire CD in his mind. How about that for a
quick and easy way to feel good whenever you are having a
tough day?

One final way to use this tip…

Replay happy memories of people telling you how much they
value and
appreciate you. Hear them saying what a difference you are
making and soak up those wonderful feelings of appreciation.

It really is your choice as to how you run your brain.
Choose to feel great and your communication with yourself
and the outside world will become remarkable. Your
motivation will soar and getting more done each day will
just get easier and easier with eager people lining up to
help you.

How To Overcome Procrastination Quickly And Easily

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2004

If you have days when you don´t feel like doing anything
what can you do?

When a deadline looms you need a quick and easy way to
start making some progress. This is very possible for you
with the following three minor shifts in how you think
about work.

1. Define Specifically What You Must Do
Ignore all other tasks for the moment. This step can be a
revelation - clarity helps you to concentrate on what
matters most of all.

It is a lot easier to get started when you know what needs
to be done rather than feeling like you have to do
everything at the same time.

Write down the goal as specifically as you can so that you
have a clear and attainable target to aim for.

2. Allow Yourself To Make Mistakes
If you demand perfection of yourself you will quite
naturally put off getting started until the perfect moment
arrives. Of course this will never happen so you will never
commence the project.

It is more important to begin.

Do your best and make corrections later on. By adopting
this outlook you will get something done and you can enlist
the help of others to advise you and give feedback.

Then improve your work after you have finished your first
effort.

3. Compete Against Yourself
When you compete against others the possibility of failure
can stop you from even trying. It is far better to compete
against your previous best performance.

Compare the quality of your work with your usual standards
and aim to match or beat that standard. This approach puts
you back in control and allows you to succeed on your own
terms.

Obviously your personal standards must meet or exceed those
of the people who are relying on your work.

To sum up. You can beat procrastination with a few minor
shifts in how you think about success and achievement.

For the sake of learning a new way of thinking about your
work you can enjoy greater success and leave the anxiety of
procrastination behind forever.

The Secret Motivation Strategy That Never Fails

Tuesday, September 21st, 2004

No matter how much you want to make your dreams come true
you still need some practical ways to keep yourself
motivated over the long term. You need the ability to keep
going in the face of setbacks, disappointments and
short-term frustrations.

Thankfully there is a simple and very powerful way to stay
focused and highly motivated. Are you ready for a personal
breakthrough?

1. Determine The Reasons Why You Want To Attain The Goal

Write down on paper the reasons why you want to succeed.
List at least 50 reasons. This will take you 10 minutes of
brainstorming. Just write down whatever pops into your head.

Write as quickly as you can and keep going until you have a
list of 50 great reasons.

2. Pick Out The Top 5 Reasons

Scan the list of reasons why you want to achieve your goal
and pick out the reasons which have the most emotional
charge for you. i.e the ones you feel strongly about.

These are the reasons which will keep you motivated when
obstacles show up. And as you read over the top 5 reasons
you may way feel a smile on your face and you will feel a
new surge of motivation.

3. Each Day Review The Top Reasons

On a daily basis take a moment to review the top 5 reasons
why you want to achieve the goal. Read over the list and
make sure to notice how you feel. These reasons move you
emotionally because they are so important to you.

When you feel strongly about these reasons motivation will
be automatic.

Let me give you an example.

John wants to double his income but feels too overwhelmed
at work to even concentrate on ways to earn more.

He takes 10 minutes on his lunch break to scribble 50
reasons why he wants to double his income. Then he picks
out the top 5 reasons - the ones that really move him
emotionally.

What does he discover?

The prospect of having more dollar signs does not inspire
him to earn more but the following reasons do inspire him:

1. Feel more appreciated and respected by my wife
2. Become more successful in my career
3. Fulfill my potential at last
4. Get that top of the range car I´ve always wanted
5. Give more money to local charities

As a result John now has a sense of purpose that drives him
to do all he can to achieve his goal.

the same applies to you…

When you tap into why you want to achieve you goals, on a
daily basis, you will find the true source of your
motivation.

How To Get Motivated When You Have An Off Day

Monday, September 20th, 2004

Sometimes you just don´t have the energy to get excited,
motivated or inspired enough to do what has to be done.

What can you do on days like these?

There are three simple yet powerful ways to pull yourself
out of a slump. And best of all you can start using these
strategies today.

1. Complete Something
It is very important to start and finish something when you
need to get back on track.

Pick a small task, one that can be done in 5-10 minutes.
Then ignore everything else and devote all of your
attention to completing that task.

When you have finished it you will feel a lot better about
dealing with all of the other jobs that need to be done.
One small success leads to much greater success.

Now, simply the repeat the process with another small task
until you build some momentum.

2. Set Tight Time Deadlines
On days that you feel sluggish work in 30 minute blocks.
Tell yourself you only need to focus for the next 30
minutes and then get started on the next task at hand.

If you feel very unmotivated work for 20 minute or even 15
minute time periods. The key is to get busy and do the best
you can.

Then take a quick break and acknowledge the progress you
are making. One small step after the next will take you to
where you want to go.

3. Read Or Listen To Motivational Material
You need to inspire yourself to greater success on a daily
basis. This is important because of the negativity that
bombards us from other people and the media.

If you don´t take charge of your thinking someone else will
do it for you. Thinking about the positive instead of the
negative requires a daily commitment. It is a choice we all
make each day.

And remember…

You are not expected to be highly motivated and driven on a
empty tank. Give yourself positive fuel each and everyday
and you will be consistently more motivated.

Make a point of feeding your mind with positive input each
and every day and your attitude will become consistently
more positive. You will feel more motivated even on the off
days.

3 Great Ways To Stay Motivated At Work

Friday, September 17th, 2004

Staying motivated at work is easier than you think when you
know what to do.

1. Decide What You Must Achieve Today.

It is easy to get caught up with non urgent matters that
you can either ignore completely or do at a later date.

All that clutter leaves you confused about what to do so
you end up procrastinating.

You need to ask yourself:

What is of the utmost importance that I must complete today?

Define that specific goal and focus solely on that until
you have achieved it.

Clarity is power. It allows you to operate in a peak state
of concentration and will help to ensure you are at your
best.

You will be amazed at how much you will get done and how
successful you will feel when you FOCUS.

2. Break Down Complex Goals Into Manageable Steps

One of the biggest mistakes people make is the failure to
take big projects and restructure them as a series of
challenging but stimulating tasks.

Take any project and list the sequence of steps you need to
follow. Make sure the steps are big enough to keep your
interest and not so small that you feel bored by the
prospect of moving ahead with the project.

It is very motivating to have a highly specific game plan
that challenges you without leaving you overwhelmed.

Once you have this blueprint written down you can get
started.

And make sure to mark your progress with the time
of completion as you work your way through the list.

Tracking the time encourages you to make a game of getting
things done properly and quickly.

3. Use Negative Pressure To Keep You On Target.

This is an unusual but highly effective tip.

Pick someone at work to check in on your progress during
the day. Make sure this person has a positive outlook and
that he or she is fully supportive of your goal to achieve
more. Choose someone you want to impress with your
abilities and productivity.

The secret is to use negative pressure to keep you on
track. i.e. you want to dread the prospect of failure
because you do not want to lose the approval of this person.

You will have moments during the day when you feel good
about the progress you are making. At this point the
natural reaction is to ease up.

You can deal with this by setting up the very real prospect
of disappointing someone who believes in you. This desire
to avoid embarrassment will drive you to give of your best.

Use these three tips each day and watch your productivity
soar.

Motivation really is a question of strategy. When you know
your personal motivation blueprint there is nothing you
cannot do.

Now click here to discover your motivation blueprint…

How I Unraveled the Mystery of Motivation and the Disturbing Implications for You

Tuesday, September 7th, 2004

What are the 3 Essential Elements You will not Find in Self Help Books?

It is important to realize something that’s actually very important. Don’t read the success books of the self help experts - go to the source! What do I mean?

What I am saying is that the vast majority of self help teachers are drawing from the same pool of knowledge only they don’t tell you this. They simply repackage it and put their smiling face to it!

Another thing you may not already know. The most popular self help books have to appeal to a very wide audience so some of the more powerful tools are never included because a big part of the audience will not understand them.

And, the final problem with general self help material is that its very hard to customize it so that it works in your own life. In your special and unique situation.

Have you ever read some clever ideas about how to change your life but had no idea how to use it? Or maybe you even tried to use it but for some reason it didn’t work for you?

Well your experience is typical. That’s why people keep looking for the next new thing that’s going to change their life. Because nothing else worked.

How I Unraveled the Mystery of Motivation and the Disturbing Implications for You
Back to my story..

That’s exactly the situation I found myself in. I had read a ton of books and made some but very little progress because:

I was reading a faded photocopy and not from the source of the material

The books left out the powerful tools I needed

When I followed the advice it didn’t work for me in my situation

At this point I was not only frustrated. I saw no way out. I felt like a caged animal. I was completely stuck.

But thankfully I recognized that I had hit rock bottom or I might never have climbed out of the hole I was digging for myself.

Because I was so stuck I was open to new ideas and new ways of improving myself and I signed up for a one year peak performance course. I was a little scared that I might be wasting what little money I had but I had to try something different. If I kept doing what I had been doing the sheer frustration would have driven me crazy.

And anyway the course organizers offered a money back guarantee so I had nothing to lose.

At the time I didn’t even have a car (that was on my list of unachieved goals) so I traveled by train once a month for the next year to attend each seminar.

The seminars were dynamite. For the first time I was learning the hard core strategies I had been searching for but not finding in those overly general self help books.

How to Start Achieving Again Even if You Feel Stuck and Discouraged…

Tuesday, September 7th, 2004

Like I said already, there is a reason why you are not always as motivated as you want to be. I had to find out for myself what that reason is because I tend to be a fairly laid back person. I like to take life easy and enjoy the moment. I like to stop and smell the roses. The problem is that I sometimes forget to get moving again, to start achieving again.

And this habit of not doing things now or worse not doing them at all has got me into big trouble in the past. Sometimes the only way I could get anything done was when a deadlines loomed over me. I had to deliver the goods or get fired (I know what that’s like too). I used to find this a very tense and hard way to live. Maybe you do too?

Despite the ups and downs of this way of life I continued to live like this until 10 years ago.

What changed?

Well, the gap between my dreams of being rich, happy and the center of a wild social whirl and the reality of living a dull life in a low paid dead end job with virtually no social life started to slowly but surely drive me nuts.

I was well qualified for a better job but I didn’t have one. I was friendly enough to have a crazy, action packed social life but I didn’t have that either. In fact, as soon as I could drag myself home from work another boring evening in front of the TV was all I had to look forward to.

At the time my friends were moving ahead in respectable professions, making good money and enjoying their free time in lively and entertaining company. I was so envious.

I wasn’t just envious. I was fed up with the situation I was stuck in and utterly frustrated with my lack of success and my inability to improve my life. What was I doing wrong? Why is it life seems to be working out so much better for everyone but me?

Well after one more cold and dark winter I had enough. I was desperate for a way out. I started to think that maybe I needed to find out how to become more successful. I had read lots of these kind of books before and most of them did help but only a little.

I obviously needed to find proven hard core strategies that would work for me.

And I did, go here to find out more…
