That One Thing That Ensures You Stay Motivated

What can you do when you do not feel like getting started?

We all know what that feels like. You sit there staring at the
mountain of work in front of you while your mind screens a
horror movie of toil and effort.

I am sure you have tried making a list of things to do but the
problem is the longer the list the harder it is to get started.

Well, listen I have a very effective remedy you can use
whenever you feel this way.

Find That One Thing You CAN Do Now.

Now, it does not matter how small a task that one thing is.
Select one thing you feel capable of starting and completing.

Let me give you an example.

Last week I was sitting at my desk ready to get stuck into a
new project but I just could not get started and my mind kept
wandering.

Then it hit me…

There was such a huge pile of papers, books and notes on my
desk that the clutter was driving me crazy.

I picked up that pile of paperwork and deposited it on a
different desk in my office.

Notice that I did not sort through the pile and file it away.
I did one thing!

Now, at that stage I had started and completed one task that
would help me to make progress on my project. I then picked
one other thing I could do NOW.

Little by little I found myself starting and making progress
on the project without giving myself a hard time.

This is easy to do. And it gives you a sense of achievement
and gradual progress towards the successful outcome you have
in mind.

You Can Use This Simple Approach Today…

1. Pick a task you want completed but do not feel like
starting.

2. Ask yourself - what is the one thing I CAN do now?

i.e. you feel capable of doing it and it is effortless for you
to do so right now.

3. Do it!

4. Repeat step 2. Ask yourself again - what is the one thing I
CAN do now?

This works as long as you use these steps without putting
yourself under pressure. Remember that even a tiny step
forward is still a step forward. And each one builds your
confidence.

Do not force yourself to raise the stakes in a big way every
time you go back to the question - what is the one thing I CAN
do now?

Simply do that one thing you know you can do and repeat the
process.

How to Stay Motivated Despite Negative People

Getting motivated is sometimes easy enough to do, at least
for short periods of time, but staying motivated can be a
lot harder to do.

And when you add into the mix the presence of negative
people it is really not surprising that your motivation can
fizzle out despite your best intentions.

What can you do?

1. Do Not Discuss Your Dreams with Negative People

Only share your hopes, dreams and goals with people who
will be supportive of your plans. Making your dreams come
true is like tending to a garden.

You have to give the plants the nutrients, water and
sunlight they need to grow i.e. for you this means - the
resources, mental focus and energy to create something new.

And you have to pay constant attention to weeding and
eradicating bugs that will over run your garden if you are
not vigilant. i.e. protect your dreams from negative people
by not exposing your plans to their toxic words and
thoughts.

2. When You Get Stuck Seek Advice from People Who Can Help

Very often when you get stuck you will turn to whoever is
nearby for encouragement and advice. This can be a big
mistake if that person has no vision and a limited sense of
possibility.

Only ask for advice from people who are qualified to help
you. When you act on good advice you know you are doing the
right things and staying motivated will be easy.

Whereas when someone with no relevant knowledge or no sense
of possibility advises you it makes sense to be unmotivated.

Why take action on bad advice? Why even try if that person
cannot see things working out?

Avoid this negative world view by carefully deciding who to
get advice from.

3. Switch Off Your Own Negative Thoughts

Negative thoughts can be like a virus that just keeps on
spreading. If people around you are negative it is only
normal for you to lose a little of your own enthusiasm and
drive.

You may even start to have a few nagging negative thoughts
of you own.

Be careful!

One such negative thought leads to another, and another…

You need to switch off these negative thoughts ASAP or else
your motivation will fizzle away to nothing.

How?

By using the three ways I mention in section 59-61 of my

How to Use Discouragement to Motivate Yourself

Ever feel like giving up? Do you ever feel so discouraged that
even one more day of frustration will be too much too handle?

Everyone gets discouraged at times only there are a number of
key differences between people who keep on going and those who
give up:

1 Focus On Your Goal Not On Your Problems

One of my mentors is a highly successful property developer
and he loves solving problems. All day long he can take on one
problem after the next and just keep going.

How does he do this when most people would feel overwhelmed?

He understands the importance of focus. He never loses sight
of his goal and his goals so excite him that problems are
nothing more than stepping stones to the achievement of his
outcomes.

If you are feeling discouraged it is very likely because your
focus is on what has not worked; your setbacks and your fears.

Discipline your mind to focus on your goals and discouragement
will fade into the distance.

2 Ask For Help

You do not have to deal with everything alone. Ask for help
from someone who is qualified to help you and act on their
good advice.

Two minds are better than one especially when your mind is
full of discouragement.

And, you will feel stronger knowing that someone else is
backing you, keen to see you succeed.

When you think about it.

The only thing stopping your from getting from where you are
to where you want to be is — learning! Learning an effective
approach.

If you do not know the answer why waste time guessing when you
can open your mouth and ask?

3 Learn How Your Mind Works

Once you take charge of your thoughts and your emotions you
will be able to deal with whatever challenges come your way.
Until that happens you will always be at mercy to the ups and
downs of life.

The most valuable gift you can give yourself is the ability to
master self-motivation.

The moment I finally understood how to motivate myself was the
day my life changed forever. I discovered a tenacity that sees
me though any challenges I have to deal with.

Until you learn how to run your brain it really is like having
a super computer without a user manual. The power to motivate

Feelings of frustration, discouragement and overwhelm are not

What would it be like if you were unable to worry?

Imagine feeling secure about the future and looking forward
to it with an excitement you have not felt since you were a

What I am going to talk about today is not for everyone…

How to Tune In Your Brain and Feel Motivated in Minutes

One day when I was in school, many years ago, the school
principal wandered into our class room, sat down and started
to talk.

He talked and talked and there was nothing we could do to stop
him seeing as how he was in charge!

For once he actually said something that interested me and I
never forgot what he said. Not because he was so original but
because he was the first person I heard saying it.

That day he spoke about the untapped potential of the human
mind and how we are all capable of so much more than we
realize.

And how once you learn how to use more of this vast
intelligence you can become much more successful.

This distinction has a special significance when it comes to
motivating yourself. Because on those days when you are not
motivated the solution to your problems may seem elusive. Even
though you are capable of handling the situations you find
yourself in.

If you could approach each day with an attitude of demanding
more from yourself than anyone else ever would - you would be
shocked at what you can achieve. You would be using more of
your potential and making great progress.

Silly tasks you have to perform then become stepping stones to
something far grander and problems become opportunities for
you to grow and impress not only yourself but everyone else
around you.

The challenge for you right now comes down to getting started.

Once your engine is running the momentum will keep you going
but what do you do if you feel stuck and unable to begin?

All of that vast potential is not being used because you do

performance you will be able to do this in a matter of
minutes. And go from feeling apathetic to feeling energized
and highly motivated.

This time spend learning how to run your brain will transform
the quality of your life even more quickly than you can
imagine.

are making breakthroughs every year in our understanding of
how the mind works.

How to Give Yourself a Motivational Warm Up When You Wake Up!

What is the worst thing you can do when you start your day?

Answer:

Wake up feeling lethargic and expect yourself to perform at
100% from the moment you get up in the morning; and then
compare how you are doing during the day against this
unrealistic benchmark.

There is a better way!

As you wake up in the morning take charge of your thoughts in
that early morning awareness before you fully awake.

Do this before you get up out of bed by repeating some
affirmations. Affirmations work very well WHEN you say them
with strong feelings in a state of deep relaxation.

If you have heard about affirmations before and never got the
maximum benefit from them it is because you did not know how
to take a very ordinary approach and supercharge it.

Supercharging affirmations depends on four factors:

- Phrasing affirmations in the right way
- Choosing ones that are right for you
- saying them while in a state of deep relaxation
- saying them with strong feeling

When you use affirmations correctly their impact will last for
at least a few hours - long enough to get you started on the
day ahead.

Pay close attention now because I am going to reveal details
of some of my personal and very private habits…

I use the following affirmations to help me get up in a
positive state of mind:

- Positive thoughts bring me the benefits I desire

- Negative thoughts have no influence over me

- Everyday and in everyway I am getting better and better

You can do the same.

Remember to say these affirmations with feeling and do so
quietly inside your head while in that relaxed awakening state.

Unless I use this ritual each morning I tend to feel negative
about the day ahead. The difference from feeling negative to
feeling positive is huge for the sake of those few minutes in
the morning.

You can also go one step further and imagine the day ahead
working out well. See yourself doing your best and easily
dealing with challenges.

Imagine you will have a great day in this way and you are
directing your unconscious to make it happen in the language
it understands best - feelings and images.

Forget about will power.

Will power is a waste of time because its like talking to the
most powerful part of your mind in a language it does not
understand.

How to Achieve More by Dealing with Resistance

Today I want to discuss the missing link in goal attainment…

Your personal success and achievement depends on your ability
to act upon what you know. Yet this is where most people
stumble.

It is easy to find out what to do. Simply ask the right people
for advice, read the best books on the subject and attend the
seminars that will fill in the missing details.

It is following through on what you know that makes the
difference between the people who are achieving and everyone
else.

Think about something you want to do…

You probably already know enough to get started. You will
never have certainty you will succeed but you can have a good
sense that with adequate preparation you will do well.

What is stopping you?

Resistance - that feeling of not being able to do what you
want to do.

Resistance has many symptoms. You may feel tired, not able to
concentrate or an inability to get started even when you have
everything you need to begin.

Even if you know all there is to know about how to succeed and
you have a plan and you know what to do - resistance can keep
you from making any progress.

You need to let go of this resistance.

When you let go you still have goals and purpose in life only
you get to enjoy the journey more. And you feel more relaxed
and at peace.

When you let go you will think more clearly and you will find
it easier to come up with solutions to tough challenges because
your limiting emotions will not cloud your judgment. It is
always easier to cope with setbacks when you feel at peace.

Make a point of using whatever approach you already use to
release the resistance that is holding you back.

You CAN do it! (Become More Motivated)

Today I just wanted to send you a quick note to encourage you.
Why? Because even as you are doing your best to motivate there
will be days when it all seems too much.

No matter how challenging life gets bear in mind the following
three points.

1 Your problems are not personal

Most of our problems can be solved right away once we learn
the correct strategy. Theories might help however often they
will only allow you to understand the problem without giving
you a solution you can put to good use right away.

Be alert to resources that show you practical strategies. A
breakthrough is possible sooner than you think once you find
and use an effective strategy.

2 Your problems are not pervasive

When things are not working out and you feel like giving up –
stop! Look for aspects of your life that are working to remind
yourself that not everything is falling apart. It is unlikely
